A little bird told me.

DIY bird feeder

Perhaps for some of you, where you live there are flowers all year round.  Birds chirping and singing and tree leaves rustling in the breeze almost daily.  But for others, shedding the drab ending days of winter for the early blooms of spring, is like getting a renewed view on life.  Let’s face it, winter can get pretty depressing at the end.

I get very excited even just thinking about planning out the garden, what flowers we want to plant and the list of projects for our outdoor space begins.  When I was younger, I wondered why people got so into gardening.  I thought of it as more work than it was worth… but now that I’m older, I get it.  It’s therapeutic, satisfying and gives a sense of pride about your home!

After all the work of planting flowers comes the hope of attracting birds.  And if we can attract them, we should at least feed them like good hosts shouldn’t we?  Why not give them an awesome little place to feast that’s vibrant, pretty and ridiculously easy.

You can find many ‘DIY bird feeder’ ideas on the web.  Buy this, drill holes in that, screw these together la la la.  That’s great and dandy and yields some awesome feeders!  But so does this!

All it took was an old, unused, two tier tray that was looking for a new purpose.  All the pieces unscrewed, then I simply put the small tray on the bottom, and the large tray inverted on the top to protect the feed from rain.

That’s it!  Unless you want to take it a bit further and add some colour…. like this brilliant cobalt blue…

Fill it with yummy treats for those little ones and wait for them to discover it!

How adorable is this?! We have a bird feeder in our backyard and I love to watch the little birds…hate how greedy the squirrels get though.

I too will be looking out for something like the dble tray to make a bird feeder. Since I bought two feeders on sale at Big lots we’ve really gotten into feeding the birds and I keep looking for ways to make more bird feeders we can afford. Love your idea and how you did it. The color is so vibrant, the birds should love that. So glad I found this post. Keep accumulating ideas to make different bird feeders for the little sweeties.
    Happy days
